Breaking personal bests, and dealing with beastsPosted: June 10, 2012
I just realized that I had blown past 100,000 words on my new work in progress. For a total of 107,900! (That’s about 400 pages, depending on font size.)
This is the first time I have been past the 100,000 mark on any one project. My last full novel maxed out at 87,000 words. It’s a mark I have been looking forward to breaking for a long time.
Of course in typical me fashion, one part of my mind is saying that’s awesome. Jump around and yell at the top of your lungs your great accomplishment. But the other more sinister part of my consciousness always wins over, and tells me ehh It’s no big deal. After all you still have to finish the third part. You still need to write the outline for part three. Still need to build plot and characters, and develop them. Need to keep up with your daily word count goals, and Campnanowrimo. (For those who don’t know that’s an online writing self challenge website. You try to write 50,000 words in one month.)
So instead of patting myself on the back like any normal person would do, I’m beating myself up with the amount of work I still have to do. Ah, the beauty of being a writer.
